the world as we know it has ended and mother nature starts taking back what’s hers. there are no zombies or cannibals or murderous bandits. the most valued members of the community are those who know how to garden and farm, sew and weave, treat wounds, work wood or build with bricks, cook from scratch.
people bond together to begin rebuilding instead of killing each other. everyone teaches each other whatever they do know and works together to figure out the stuff none of them know. books become incredibly valued resources because they’re often the only way to learn critical information. if someone is elderly, disabled, or otherwise unable to work at the same level as most of the community, they’re taken care of by the others, not told any sort of “survival of the fittest” bs.
as the generations ware on, communities begin expanding into small cities. some of the settlements even find ways to repurpose solar or wind power on a small scale and have electricity in some of their buildings. storytellers wander the countryside telling tales of the old world in return for some hot stew or a place to rest for the night, and the mythos of the new world start to incorporate elements of the past. the only thing that remains constant is that humans survive, and they do it by working together.

my girlfriend and i are both chat mods for warframe, and we’ve been working closely with DE staff to have important additions made to one of the chat’s few bots that are ever-present.
we’ve finally gotten to where the bot now issues an auto-ban on any user who uses any phrases like “nezha is a tr*p”, while obviously not having the asterisk in there, cuz people are seriously gross.
i’ve been seeing a lot of people complaining about it, and i mean a LOT of people. we’re not online all the time to watch the chats, so the bot being there to ban users who think they can get away with being a transphobic piece of shit are now being dealt with. the ban can last anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks, depending on what you’ve said, or the number of times you’ve had issues with being bot-banned.
obviously this is just something small, but keeping transphobic slurs out of region chat, especially the aforementioned one, is really important to my girlfriend and i, and it’s important to the staff as well. we’re still working on creating new filters and trigger phrases, but so far, what i’ve mentioned above has been working really well, since all i’ve seen are angry users. i hope they stay that way.
we’re still working on careful and selective phrasing for the bot so that we can talk about being gay without the word triggering the bot, because as it stands right now, it’s an auto-kick for using the word gay, usually because people use it in a derogatory context. we want to change that, and we’re trying hard. please be patient with us.
i should also mention that the phrase ‘hitler did nothing wrong’ has also been added to the filter, and will bot-ban whoever types it. instantly.
if you are a trans or otherwise lgbtq+ person who plays warframe and you’ve seen phrases in the chat that you think are harmful to you as a person, you are always free to IM me about it. they’re open to all, and i’d love to take everyone’s grievances into consideration. have a wonderful day!!
All it means when people say “you’re speaking from a place of privilege” is that you’re likely to underestimate how bad the problem is by default because you are never personally exposed to that problem. It’s not a moral judgement of how difficult your life is.
^^^^^^ read it. say it out loud. keep repeating it until you understand.
Can we break the notes on this one? We certainly oughtta try!!!!
Motivational and inspirational. Don’t forget Matt Le Blanc who had around $10 to his name after moving to New York and not making it as an actor and same day landing his role on Friends. I can’t add pictures so maybe someone else can do that for me.
Actually something I really needed right now. Thanks.
Also a lot of these people were in they’re 30’s. Take your 20’s to figure out what you truly wanna do and work your ass off.
knowing that so many people took so long to find their callings helps calm my fears about finally perusing my dreams.
Gif stands for Graphics Interchange Format. when graphics is pronounced “JAFFICKS” Then I will pronounce Gif with a “J”
^ This
It’s followed by an R of course it would be a hard g. But Giraffe is a soft g. Genius is a soft g. Gin is pronounced with a soft g too. GIF is I following a g, it would be pronounced with a soft g.
It aint Jif peanut butter though.
It would still be pronounced like that. The general rule is if the g is followed by an e or i, it’s soft g. U or a consonant is generally a hard g.
I will DIE WITH MY HONOR
Gear =/= Jear
Get =/= Jet
Gift =/= Jift
Give =/= Jive
In English, words with a ‘G’ followed by an ‘e’ or an ‘i’ can be pronounced with either a hard ‘G’ or a soft ‘G’.
Words with Germanic roots such as ‘gear’, ‘get’, ‘gift’, ‘give’ (see above) are pronounced with a hard ‘g’ while words with Latin or Greek roots such as ‘gem’, ‘general’, ‘giraffe’, ‘giant’, are pronounced with a soft ‘g’.
So no, it’s not exactly a “general rule” that ‘g’ followed by an ‘e’ or an ‘i’ makes a soft ‘g’ sound.
Additionally, “GIF” is an ACRONYM starting with a word that begins with a hard ‘g’ sound, so “GIF” is therefore pronounced with a hard ‘g’.
We fight with honor
The gifs though.
I pronounce it with a hard G, but I reject the notion that “graphics” being pronounce with a hard G means that an acronym or initialism needs to follow the same rule. The acronym or initialism is free to follow its own rules, and you can ask an RCMP officer, an FBI agent, or a UN spokesperson for clarification.
The primary goal of communication should be clarity, and for the sake of clarity, it should be GIF with a hard G. Why? Because there is also a .JIF (and JFIF) type extension which is an entirely different thing, and there’s only one possible way to pronounce that one.
