References. You are entirely free to throw in as many references as you want to whatever the hell you want and nobody can say boo. It’s fanfiction! It’s for fun! You’re not getting paid! You’re already borrowing an entire world and its characters wholesale and shaping it to your own needs, nobody’s gonna care if you pick a snappy line of dialogue you liked from somewhere else!

Want your characters to spout off one-liners from 300 as they rush into battle? Do it. Want to take a premise from one fandom and put characters of another through a similar conflict? Do it! Want to put in a supporting OC that is a direct and blatant homage to to that one character you loved who got killed off in an entirely different and unrelated fandom? Ain’t nobody gonna stop you!
