When you have to use the original meme to get a point across
Walk out. There is no such thing as a permanent record, but there is such a thing as ‘the entire administration gets sued and fired’.
I want to add again that schools are allowed to punish you for missing class to protest, but it has to be the standard punishment for missing class (as though you were missing for any other reason). If they would not normally suspend you for 3 days for missing class, then they cannot do it for this. It is a violation of your first amendment rights to punish you more harshly for protesting than for any other reason for an absence from class. [source – ACLU]
If your school is threatening you with a punishment that is beyond what would normally be given for an unexcused class absence, you should contact your local ACLU chapter. You should be able to find the standard disciplinary actions for excused and unexcused absences in your student handbook; if the punishment for protesting is different from the punishment listed in the handbook, then you need to contact that ACLU. You can find your local ACLU chapter by clicking here.
hey there LGBTQ kids who are also Christian/Jewish! If you feel like you’re disobeying God, questioning your faith, or feel wrong and dirty for loving who you love, there’s this fantastic site I found today called hoperemains that accurately and thoroughly combs through scripture and its (many) mistranslations, validates your orientation, and basically let’s you know that you’re not pissing off God. It’s insanely thorough and after reading through every page on the entire site it’s super helpful. Go check it out!
hoperemains is completely from a Christian perspective, and not pluralistic or interfaith at all.
If you reblogged the first post from me please reblog this amendment so the Jewish peeps can access this resource too!
Trans Jewish kids, you can go to TransTorah as well!
Muslim LGBTQ kids, you can go to iamnotharaam! It’s run by a mod squad of different genders and orientations, and they take submissions from everybody!

That will not help save the bees at all. They need the excess honey removed from their hives. That’s the beekeepers entire livelihood.
Seriously refusing to eat honey is one of those well-meaning but ultimately terrible ideas. The bees make way too much honey and need it out in order to thrive (not being funny but that was literally a side effect in Bee Movie). Plus that’s the only way for the beekeepers to make the money they need to keep the bees healthy. Do not stop eating honey because somebody on Tumblr told you too.
excess honey, if not removed, can ferment and poison the bees. even if it doesn’t, it attracts animals and other insects which can hurt the bees or even damage the hive. why vegans think letting bees stew in their own drippings is ‘cruelty-free’ is beyond me. >:[
the fact that we find honey yummy and nutritious is part of why we keep bees, true, but the truth is we mostly keep them to pollinate our crops. the vegetable crops you seem to imagine would still magically sustain us if we stopped cultivating bees.
and when you get right down to it… domestic bees aren’t confined in any way. if they wanted to fly away, they could, and would. they come back to the wood frame hives humans build because those are nice places to nest.
so pretending domestic bees have it worse than wild bees is just the most childish kind of anthropomorphizing.
If anything, man-made hives are MORE suitable for bees to live in because we have mathematically determined their optimal living space and conditions, and can control them better in our hives. We also can treat them for diseases and pests much easier than we could if they were living in, say, a tree.
Tl;dr for all of this: eating honey saves the bees from themselves, and keeping them in man-made hives is good for them.
Tbh I think that we just need to acknowledge that there isn’t just some strict binary between “slur” and “not a slur,” like not all words are either slurs 100% of the time or completely safe to use.
I think a lot of the time, whether a word is a slur or not is contextual. Like, who is using this word, and why are they using it? What are they referring to?
Is “cunt” a slur when hurled at female politicians? Usually! Is it a slur when it’s used in erotica because the word “vagina” feels too technical to be sexy? I wouldn’t say so.
“Queer” is a slur when it’s being used by a group of high school football players beating up a GNC kid behind the gym. That doesn’t mean it’s automatically a slur in a college classroom when you’re discussing history.
“Bitch” can be a slur when a guy says it to a woman who turns him down at a bar. It’s not a slur when my friend goes “B I T C H !!!” in excitement when we’re talking about fanfic ideas.
Someone talking about how “The Jews” control the banks is probably using it as a slur. Someone casually referring to their roommate as a Jew just as a factual observation, isn’t necessarily using it as a slur.
And like, this is gonna vary, and people are going to have their emotional reactions to certain terms. That kid who got beat up might be made uncomfortable by the word “queer” even within that college setting. A woman might not like conversations where the word “bitch” is thrown around neutrally.
And that’s fine, that’s understandable, but that doesn’t actually mean that the word in question is always a slur (which goes back to the whole idea that being triggered by something means it’s always inherently bad, which is just an impractical way to conceptualize triggers in general.)
Plus there’s regional differences between what’s a slur and how severe it is.
Like Americans see “cunt” as a very severe, very misogynistic word. Whereas a lot of flavours of british people use it in the same way we do “bastard” and “fucker”, and even endearingly sometimes towards friends. It doesn’t have the same shock value to a lot of people here, you’ll hear someone call their mate “a bit of a daft cunt” on the bus and if you’re under 50 and not very middle class, it barely registers.
The regional differences thing is exactly why I find “but i’m nonUSian and only assholes use the q slur here!” incredibly weird.
Okay, but I’m not telling you to be an asshole. I’m telling you that a USian who posts about “queer rights” isn’t necessarily an asshole, so don’t ride them like one.
This might be the most reasonable post I’ve seen on this topic to date.
fuck yes, let 2018 be the year of rational, mature discourse
I propose that we all take a moment from our day and send loving, encouraging messages to Miles to counter all the assholes who are harassing him. Tell him he’s doing a good job, that he’s a great voice actor, that he’s a talented singer, or just say “Thank you for putting so much time and energy into entertaining people who don’t have to pay a dime for that entertainment!”
Part of receiving feedback that I think should be emphasized more is that: when an editor or beta points out a problem, their suggestion for fixing it isn’t always correct (or it might be correct for their style, but doesn’t match what you’re doing).
However, something still caught them up, so the author might want to take another look at that section of the story. The choice isn’t a binary one between “Change the story the way they say or don’t change anything.” You can change it in a different way. The reader may have misunderstood something about your story, and that makes their advice on a certain topic unhelpful, but it could still be a sign for you to clarify that part earlier. You might disagree with their rationale for the change, but still agree something should be rewritten. You might accept half of their suggestion for rewording a sentence but use your own ideas for the second half. You might reject any changes to one sentence, but revise another, related part of the story.
Editing isn’t something done *to* you. It’s something *you* do, with another person’s help. I think the best results come when authors realize the amount of control they have and are willing and able to take advantage of it.
This is absolutely WONDERFUL advice/clarification on betaing/editing/critiquing.
As someone who likes looking over the works of his friends, essentially this. Ibarely know what I’m talking about; expecting you to know is idiotic on my part. I have a lot of difficulty expressing myself—hence why I like to illustrate my points with examples of rewrites—but I have a lot of faith in my ability to pick out problems, if not my ability to explain them.
I’m trying to work with you, not do your job for you. No one knows your story better than you; all I can hope to do is provide extra eyes for more coverage.
“And if they make good on their threats? Take the three-day suspension, and while you’re sitting at home thinking about how naughty you’ve been, call the ACLU. Those civil rights lawyers love shit like this! And if you’re worried about getting into college, write your college entrance essay about why you walked out and what it taught you. Godless liberal academia loves shit like that!
REMINDER TO SENIORS: It’s February. If you are college-bound, your admissions stuff is probably already finished. Even more reason to tell Principal DoucheRocket to get bent!”
the most important thing to me ever is bi kids knowing that it’s ok to be 10% attracted to women and 90% attracted to men or 10% attracted to men and 90% attracted to women and still feeling ok to identify as bi, and still feeling like their identity is valid, and still feeling like they can lead fulfilling lives with both (or other) genders. like that’s just so fricking important.
I’m a bi adult and you know what? I needed this. Thank you.
it’s also important to remember that it can be a fluid % like sometimes it’ll be 50/50 some times 10/90 and then drift into a 45/65 or even 2/98 and it’s still okay. It’s just where you are at that time in your life.
1. Vaginal discharge is normal
2. Wearing panty liners 24/7 is not necessary
3. Vaginas are acidic enough to BLEACH fabric, hence the discoloration of underwear
4. Longer labias are more normal than smaller ones (but both are fine)
5. It is not safe for vaginas to smell like sunshine and flowers so quit expecting it to
6. Having sex has no correlation of how “tight” your vagina is
7. Yeast infections are COMMON
In case any of you ladies are feeling a little self conscious
It’s what keeps some people sane. It’s what drives the world’s most skilled and accomplished athletes, the most intense gamers, the hardcore hobbyists, even many of the most talented artists, musicians and actors – flow is what you get when unstoppable drive meets an unflinching will and unlimited dedication.
Flow is being utterly, truly “in the zone”. And it’s one of the most amazing feelings there is.
This is why finding a sport, or a hobby, or a martial art, or a handicraft, or a new video game, or any skill-based activity that uses focus and requires practice and repetition is so beneficial for things like depression and anxiety and overall mental/physical well-being.
This quote “flow is what you get when unstoppable drive meets an unflinching will and unlimited dedication” makes it sound like you have to be some kind of super motivated and dedicated person to achieve this mental state, but, yeah no, we’re all capable of it. And why chilling out to rock some video games or do whatever you need to for that kind of mental relaxation is NOT a waste of your time.
